The main components of ELAR are reading, writing, listening, and speaking which are addressed in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Also falling under these components are vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and handwriting. Although many skills are first taught in isolation, they are all necessary to be successful communicators in our world. Consequently, as students’ knowledge and skills expand, they will be expected to apply them in all their ELAR assignments.
Third grade is reading Bunnicula!
Fourth grade is reading Frindle!
